On 30 July 2016, Skydiver Luke Aikins jumped from 25,000 feet out of an aeroplane without a parachute.

However, he landed safely in a net in the Simi Valley desert, California.

For some unknown reason, Luke’s jump appeared in my YouTube feed, and I’m glad it did.

Luke’s jump is one of the most spectacular events I have ever seen.

Such adrenaline-charged action could not be more opposite from my recent two-night break with Rita.

We stayed at Tankardstown House Hotel, County Meath, in one of its beautiful cottage suites.

There was no action, dramatics or adrenaline—just the two of us, fine dining and some meandering journeys in the car.

On the first full day, we drove to Bettystown, parked beside the beach and enjoyed the scenery, and watched people walk by. Then it was back to the hotel for fabulous food.

During the drive home, we stopped at Mellifont Abbey and Monasterboice - ancient church sites we love and hadn’t visited for thirteen years.

Calm, peaceful, and relaxed.

These are precious times to cherish.
